Science Club

Science Club

Our FREE Science Clubs meet once a month at the Telegraph Museum Porthcurno.

The clubs are run by our Learning & Interpretation Manager, a qualified and experienced teacher, with support from some fantastic volunteers.

We follow the British Science Association CREST Superstar & Megastar Investigator schemes for 7-12 year olds.

Superstar Science Club (7-11 year-olds)

  • Children work through a series of exciting and relevant science-based problems in pairs or small groups. They complete practical, hands-on science activities and think and talk about science, rounding off the activity by sharing their ideas with others in a range of different ways.
  • After completing a series of 12 activities over the year, they earn a CREST Superstar Investigator Award.
  • In order to receive the Award, children will need to commit to attending as many of the club meetings as possible.
  • If children miss a meeting, we will give them an activity to complete at home to make sure that they don’t miss out on the Award.

Megastar Science Club (8-12 year-olds who’ve completed the Superstar Award)

  • Following on from the Superstar Club, our Megastar scientists carry out three projects during the year to earn their British Science Association CREST Megastar Investigator award.
  • Again, the approach is hands-on and fun, with lots of thinking and talking about science too
  • In order to receive the Award, children will need to commit to attending as many of the club meetings as possible.
  • If children miss a meeting, we will give them an activity to complete at home to make sure that they don’t miss out on the Award.
