The Cable and Wireless Archive contains a wide range of historic material relating to the development of international communications business and technology, dating from the 1850s to the present day. The archive includes corporate, financial, and publicity records, promotional films, maritime records regarding cableships, and engineers reports for the laying and repair of telegraph cables. There are also staff records dating from the 1870s onwards containing a wealth of information regarding individual telegraph workers, and company staff magazines including ‘The Zodiac’ that began in 1906. There are reference books covering the history of telecommunications including many early and rare publications, and a collection of telegrams. This archive is open to public research.
