The Story of Ascension – a Unique Island

Grey photograph of an astronaut’s footprint on the moon's surface taken during the Apollo mission with text in pink which reads ‘Apollo in Ascension, Ascension Island Earth Station and Apollo mission communications’ with Telegraph Museum Porthcurno logo in white.

To celebrate the opening of our new exhibition Apollo in Ascension we welcome Peter Johnson to give a talk about the island which has a long communications history.

Pete was stationed on Ascension during the Apollo moon landing and the exhibition explores the role of the Cable and Wireless earth station which helped with communications during the space race.

The 30-minute talk will be followed by the showing of the 1967 film Apollo in Ascension, commissioned by Cable and Wireless featuring narration by actor Julian Glover (Game of Thrones, Star Wars).
